Henrietta Marie Pilgrimage 2026
In Key West, Black divers and leaders from Underwater Adventure Seekers and Diving With a Purpose joined Stanford University anthropologist Dr. Ayana Omilade Flewellen and NOAA to visit the underwater memorial marker of the Henrietta Marie (sank 1700), conduct scientific monitoring, perform submerged oral histories, and hold a libation ceremony at the Higgs Beach African Refugee Cemetery.

The expedition team of Black divers, scientists, and elders gathers in Key West under the leadership of UAS President Michael Philip Davenport and Master Instructor Jay Haigler for safety briefings, gear checks, and an opening grounding circle.
